The YMCA Revolution Ball 2016
In my time I've been very blessed to have people come up to me and ask me to help them with videos. This past year has been no exception. In the Fall of 2015 one of the volunteer youth leaders at my church approached me and asked if I was interested in helping with an event she was putting on. She works as Director of Special Events for the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis and they were hosting a Ball in January of 2016. This Ball is held to celebrate the YMCA and to thank the donors for their generous support.
Initially I was asked to document the Ball and create a recap video, but my work expanded. I was also asked to help create a video that would be shown at the Ball, spotlighting the different YMCA programs and people. This included Youth Development, Social Responsibility and Healthy Living. We interviewed a few different people involved with the YMCA and these programs. The video also incorporated images I was given and video footage I shot.
The footage I shot included a YMCA afterschool program on the Southside of Indianapolis, Arsenal Tech High School and the recently opened YMCA CityWay. CityWay is an amazing new YMCA facility in the heart of Indianapolis. In the end, this video was shown at the Revolution Ball that I spoke about earlier. The pre-event can be found below.
The Revolution Ball was held at the brand new CityWay. My wife and I got all dressed up and filmed the event. A primary theme of this event is that black tie is optional, but tennis shoes are mandatory! The tennis shoe theme is used to raise awareness of an active lifestyle. It was also nice because we got to wear comfy shoes while we worked!
We captured the 5+ hour event on Saturday and the next day I edited the footage into a 2+ minute recap video that they would send out the following Monday!
It was fun getting to know more about the YMCA besides what the song tells us, and it was fun seeing the impact the YMCA has on our community.
