Ignite Camp 2021
We made it to 2021, and Ignite Camp was a go!
This years theme was MOVE. After 2020, we wanted to encourage students to move from their sedimentary lives, taking action. That theme, as usual, permeated all the things, including logos, promos, t-shirts, set design and recaps.
For the 2021 logo, I wanted to include some new elements that incorporated some thing we many have never done for a camp logo. Those new elements included the vertical letter placement and color scheme.
My wife and daughter once again joined me and over 100 students at Grace Adventures in Mears, MI. Below you’ll find a couple recaps of all the excitement. The recaps this year incorporated the 2019 direction with little glitchy elements I found to include. The elements, to me, lended themselves to that MOVE idea. They also filtered over into the design: step-and-repeat, backgrounds, slides, etc.
Pre-camp content included creating a series of teaser promotion pieces, “moving” people. The rules video this year was assigned to our student small (life) groups. We gave each group a rule and had them create their own clever way of explaining each rule. They did great, and aloud for the year to have a new, fresh idea for the rules video, as they can be pretty complicated for me to put together so going this route was nice!
Some elements of camp that pop up include videos made during camp. This year our Youth Pastor, Brad, scripted up a few videos, including a “Billy on the Street” inspired video and one with Hot Sauce Poetry. Another one that was filmed before camp, the Olympic intro, required a torch to be made. I made the torch out of foam core, some battery powered LED lights, gold spray paint and some cellophane flames.
One fun addition to camp this year was the inclusion of my own drone. When droning became mainstream and semi-pro, we initially had a student bring his drone and we used some of that footage, only a few shots though.
Having 2020 off to recenter ourselves, recenter my creativity and passion for camp, was actually a blessing. But having camp back for 2021, providing some normalcy and reconnections with God was a welcomed friend.
